**Note from Diana

Think you have what it takes to level up outside of Meisner?

This 9-week Character Development Intensive is built for actors who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves as if they’re prepping for a feature film or a major stage role. With a strong emphasis on text analysis and deeper research, we meet Monday evenings from 6:30–9:30 PM (EST). The bar is high, but the energy is collaborative, curious, and full of discovery.

Before the class begins, you’ll be required to read David Ball’s Backwards and Forwards to sharpen your analytical instincts and strengthen your deductive approach to new material. Once we’re in the room, we hit the ground running—discovering a play together, then using that foundation to move into a contemporary monologue and the scene of your choice. We’ll expand the work you’ve built in Meisner while layering in additional techniques: memorization strategies, rhetorical analysis, and movement explorations using Laban, Chekhov, Alexander Technique, and Robert Carnegie’s Acting Power.

Preparation isn’t a suggestion here—it’s the backbone of the course. Any class you miss or attend unprepared must be made up on your own time, and rain dates are built in so our momentum doesn’t falter.

One of our shared texts will be Adam Rapp’s Red Light Winter, a play containing explicit sexual content, strong language, and emotionally volatile material. Students who prefer a less intense approach may request placement in a designated “tamer” section, but space is limited and may affect opportunities to read aloud.

IMPORTANT: Please do not read Red Light Winter before the class begins. Our first assignment is to experience the play on its feet, together, in real time.

This intensive isn’t interested in perfection—it’s designed to challenge you. If you’re ready to show up fully, test your limits, support your ensemble, and take real creative risks, then yes… you might just have what it takes for this class. We’ll end with final scene showings for invited guests, celebrating everything you’ve built over nine weeks.

So, the question is… are you ready for it?

Houde School of Acting does not offer refunds if you drop/cancel a class or workshop. If you drop a class no later than a full week before the first day of class we will offer a full credit for the following month of class.

Due to the format of the classes, there are no make-up classes. We encourage you to attend as many classes as possible but don't worry if you miss a class. You can pick up your studies where you left off in your last class.

We are looking forward to working with you in class.
