About Meisner Technique
Meisner training is an interdependent series of training exercises that build on one another. The more complex work supports a command of dramatic text. Students work on a series of progressively complex exercises to develop an ability to first improvise, then to access an emotional life, and finally to bring the spontaneity of improvisation and the richness of personal response to textual work. The techniques developed the behavioral strand of Stanislavski's. The technique is used to develop improvisation skills as well as "interpreting a script, and creating the specific physical characteristics of each character the actor played".

About Introduction to Combat

This introductory combat class will expose students to basic technique, terminology, footwork, weapon, choreography, and targets as well as the history involving knife fighting. We will also watch video clips of knife fights and analyze them. The goal for this combat course is that students develop a healthy respect for the weapon, understand the narrative that combat is creating the illusion of danger, fostering a sense of heightened tensions as well as telling a story through fighting.

About Improv

Considered by some to be the core of good acting, improv training develops the performers ability to be spontaneous and in the moment. Students will learn the principles of improv such as the platform and "yes, and..." in an interactive group setting through a series of improv exercises and games.

Houde School of Acting does not offer refunds if you drop/cancel a class or workshop. If you drop a class no later than a full week before the first day of class we will offer a full credit for the following month of class.

Due to the format of the classes, there are no make-up classes. We encourage you to attend as many classes as possible but don't worry if you miss a class. You can pick up your studies where you left off in your last class.

We are looking forward to working with you in class.
